Learning from Mistakes

At a weekend spiritual retreat, my husband Richard became resistant because the word 'sin' was used. He couldn't relate to the word 'sin' until I said that it means a 'mistake', a turning away from good. That he could relate to. In business, as we review our careers, we usually see all the mistakes we have made. The shoulda, woulda, coulda's of our lives. Here is a TED video that helps put all that in perspective. Enjoy.

I AM

Really think watching this segment of Oprah is worth the time. If nothing else it will allow for conversation.
My only critical observation is that, unlike millions negatively affected by the economic downturn since 2008, Tom Shadyac made a choice to release his excessive possessions. Knowing what I do about spiritual transformation, I know he really did not have a choice -- but on paper he did.

I would appreciate hearing what others think. I know i will be at the movie I AM when it opens this Friday in Las Vegas at Village Square.

Which hunger do you feed?

I was sent an incredible article about a community kitchen in India housed in a Sikh temple that feeds 80,000 people per day for free.  At first I was overwhelmed at the thought of so many hungry people in one place.  Then I read the article more closely.  I realized that many who came were hungry -- but they were not looking to feed their bodies as much as nourish their spirits.

I was then taken with the possibility of what such a community kitchen would look like in the United States...or for the real fun of it...Las Vegas! 

What would it look like if our concept of 'soup kitchens' which have their roots in the great depression evolved to community kitchens which feed the soul while it nourished the body?  What would it look like if people of all economic strata came together to join in the effort -- from washing the dishes to scrubbing the floors.  I am reminded of a Wayne Dyer book title, There Is A Spiritual Solution to Every Problem.

Think I found an additional meaning for ServingSuccess.  Thank you Div for bringing the article to my attention.

The Change is Good Part 2

And sign up for his free daily message from the universe.  Mike is the least self-serving of any within the self-awareness community that I have encountered.  He is on point, he has stuff to sell, yet his sales is through your desire for a better understanding of how we are potentially connected without putting forth the main doctrine of a major religion. 

What follows is the daily message I received on July 15, 2010.  It struck a cord with me because of my post about Bernenke's Happiness commencement speech.  It is important that we all notice the good shifts that are occurring even when they they look like major tragedies in the present moment.  A shift is occurring and it is good.  Take note!
On the very bright side, Andrea, never in peace time history has there been such a gallant effort, by so many people, spending so many billions of dollars with no end in sight, to rapidly clean up your environment.

Never before have numerous heads of state and representatives of a corporation as large as many smaller nations, pledged to work together, sharing expertise and resources to get a job done.
Never before have so many prayer and meditation groups suddenly formed, amongst and in between every religion and those belonging to none, to foster healing of your precious planet.
Never before have finger pointers, conspiracy theorists, and blame mongers been so idle and unnecessary in the face of such a tragedy.
Never before have industry titans across every sea chosen to reexamine their own safety procedures, revisit their own environmental safeguards, and expend their own fortunes to voluntarily reflect upon and demand that they do an even better job from this day forward.


And to top it all off, Andrea, your planet has a loving, brilliant consciousness all her own, and of her countless balancing acts, healing herself is one in which she truly shines.


Of this, and so much more, you can be very, very proud.

I Am Enough

So much of adult life is focused on what has to happen next in order for some goal to be achieved. From the mundane of brushing your teeth to the subline of creating and sustaining happiness and success, we are schooled in setting goals, making lists, and taking steps to achieve our goals.

What would a day look like if we all lived it from a viewpoint of ‘I am enough’.

I am enough each time I smile.
I am enough because I am.
I am enough because I care.
I am enough because I pray.
I am enough because I try.
I am enough because I rest.
I am enough because I love.
I am enough because I believe in good.
I am enough because I believe.

I am enough because I am enough. What about you?

Dr. Success Challenge (or not): Get a piece of paper. Center and calm you mind in any way comfortable to you. When you feel ready write the words “I am enough” at the top of the page. If you are moved to write something after that, do. If not, don’t.

Enough said. Have fun being enough.

Are You Spiritually Lazy?

This is free pass week. No Dr. Success Challenge. Just one thought to sit with for the week with no lists to make and you get to choose whether or not you even think about the question I am going to pose. That is free will and choice at its finest. No one to hold accountable for the results other than yourself.

Thought to sit with: Are you spiritually lazy?

I did not think this question up all on my lonesome. I actually overheard a conversation on a hike recently and it made me first laugh, then I gave the comment some thought.

A group of men in their late 30s or early 40s, holding a baby in their politically correct front baby body harness, were deep in conversation as they traversed the downside of a well worn mountain path. As they passed me, one man was exclaiming with clear determination leaving his opinion understood, “Agnosticism is just another word for lazy.”

For those of you who do not know, agnosticism is the belief (no pun intended) that if you cannot prove something, such as the existence of God, deities, or spiritual beings, they do not exist. I have always distinguished agnosticism from atheism in the following way: agnostic’s might be willing to believe in God as long as you could prove it in a method that is acceptable to them; atheist don’t believe in any form of God or universal interconnectivity and do not care if you can prove it or not. If you have an interest in this topic, start with Wikipedia and look at some of the resources listed.

Since growth of my spirit and other’s is actually a life occupation, my stance cannot be camouflaged. Yet, I think the question is an interesting one and worth my investing some further thought to clarifying. Having just reviewed When God Winks, I cannot overlook the irony that today I invested a lot of time writing about The Crooked Road of Success(tm), which I anticipate publishing in 2010, and got stuck when I needed to describe the topic of Spiritual Growth.
