Time Vampires

It's summer and I know I could possibily have found a more joyful way to invest a Sunday afternoon, yet the level of satisfaction I got from filing a pile of papers that dated back as far as 2008 really did give me a lot of satisfaction.  I know, yet again another sign that what makes me happy would never make someone else happy.  And yet again, more proof that it's important to invest the time to know what does make you happy.  Happiness will be a topic for another blog.  For today, I want to share a questionnaire I developed a few years ago -- that I found amongst the piles of paper!

You can change 'email' to Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, texting, or any other host of possible time vampires.  You decide.  You can reach your goals or you can have vampire marks on you lifetime, but you can't do both!

Use this form for 7 days to track the time you are spending reading or writing email. For each period of time you have devoted to email during a given day answer the following questions:

Did you discover information that positively impacted your life? 0 1 2 3 4 5

0 = If it was my last moments on this earth, I would be disappointed.
1= I admit I have wasted my time.
2 = I wish I did not have to, but it was necessary.
3 = I got brought up to date on an important subject even if I don’t know if it’s necessary.
4 = I have built or strengthened a relationship.
5 = I have positively impacted my life in the present moment.

Spiritual Economics Part 1

I have a habit of reading ‘old’ books, meaning books that were published over 10 years ago. I often find – actually more than often – that the messages contained within the pages are as meaningful today as they were at the time of their original printing. On my list this month is Spiritual Economics by Eric Butterworth and The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Taken together they offer timeless and continually proven truths. I will highlight key leanings from each book separately over the next few posts in hopes of bringing the messages back to life for myself as much as for my readers.

Spiritual Economics by Eric Butterworth was published in 1993 yet this statement early in the book could have been written any time since 2008:

“Ours is an age of great change. Great corporations are streamlining their workforce to reflect the need for greater efficiencies of operation and also for the impact of automation. Whole industries are either being eliminated entirely or are moving into new fields. The result: jobs once considered to be secure are being eliminated. Many workers are being faced with the need to undergo retraining for entry into new fields of work. Many people are launching out in entrepreneurial endeavors, calling faith and vision and the need to tap into the universal flow of substance.”

Butterworth advice to combat this was to turn your attention to nature where the presence of life’s endless flow is everywhere. Whether you look to the seasons, the weather, the blooming and dormancy of plants and flowers, you see how things come to life, grow, change, die and yet life and the cycle continues. Nature is the confirmed evidence of the ‘omnipresence of universal substance.’
