Three Minutes with the President

Sometime in 2009 I was at a dinner and someone posed a conversation starter:  If you had 3 minutes with the President Obama, what would you ask or say.  For me the answer was easy.  "Please do not violate my ethical trust in you."  Notice I did not say, please don't cheat on your wife.  Personally, not my business.  Stay with me here.  The President does not make an ethical vow to me to be sexually faithful.  He makes that vow presumably to his wife.  No, I just don't want the President -- any President, any party -- not to break their ethical vow to me.  That means you do not lie -- period, clean and simple.

If you are asked a question and you cannot or do not want to answer immediately, say something creative like, "I will not answer that question right now."  Just don't lie.

Herman Cain take note.  If you cannot do the small stuff like "just don't lie" why on earth would I trust you to rule the greatest country in the world.  Your infidelity is your wife's problem.  You not being smart enough or ethical enough not to lie or to reflect on your answer when asked about infidelity, is mine.  I expect the President of the greatest nation in the world to have the ethical depth of something greater than a puddle.  Herman Cain, you could not even dog paddle.

It made me happy to write this.  Now I can put my attention where it really matters:  helping myself and others live to their greatest human potential.

Thank you.

Two Minutes with President Obama

At a business dinner recently the interim CEO of Pinnacle Entertainment posed the following question to everyone at the table:

“If you had 2 minutes face-to-face with President Obama, what would you ask of him or for him to do?”

For a moment I really did not know what to say. Two minutes, one request. Even contemplating the possibility was overwhelming. Then it came to me.

I would request that he not screw up morally or ethically.

I then began to imagine the impact of my own life if I set that standard for myself and lived to it.

How about it? I’m not asking you to take my challenge. I’m asking that you consider what you would ask of President Obama. Let me know.

Thank you,
