Graduation

Niece Andie Terzano graduated from high school yesterday and she happily looking forward to her next educational adventure -- the University of Wisconsin at Madison. 

Her graduation made me realize that is what the personal development journey -- otherwise known as adulthood -- is missing.  Graduations.  A clear sign you have completed your course work and are ready for your next adventure. 

Yet here is what I know. Even without a clear sign of completion, even without a diploma, even without a formal graduation, embracing the journey keeps you in a constant state of possibility instead of stuck where you have already completed your learning.

Just because there is no formal graduations at the different levels of personal development during adulthood does not mean you can't create some  Maybe that should be a Don't Die book title:  Don't Die waiting to Graduate Life!  Happy creating!

Transforming Won’t into Wills

Henry Ward Beecher observed that ‘the difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one often comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won’t.’
One way to transform your awareness of a situation from a ‘it won’t work; it won’t ever get better; it won’t happen’ thinking level to a perspective of ‘I will find the resources to make it work; I will attract a solution; I will make this or that happen’ thinking is to look for the opportunities in every situation to persevere and be nourished by the learning.

Reverend Ron Fox shared a story I had never heard before that summed up the opportunity for transforming awareness by shifting your perspective very neatly. The story is about the difference between heaven and hell. Heaven has a beautiful banquet table set with the most delicious foods. Hell has a beautiful banquet table set with the most delicious foods. Both places have lots of people with utensils strapped to their arms in a way that they cannot feed themselves. However, in hell everyone is mad as, well hell, that they cannot eat the food. In heaven, everyone is feeding each other.

How will you live today?  And always, remember to Don't Die with Vacation Time on the Books!

Turning Don't into the Do's of Awareness

The magic of threes was at work this morning during my quite time.  I have been working with my business strategy, trying to figure out how to have my passion match my desire for unlimited profitability.  Here are the three messages I received:

"What you see in others has more to do with who you are than with who other people are."  Epictetus

"I am defeated, and know it, if I meet any human being from who I find myself unable to learn anything." George Herbert Palmer

"Teach the wise, and they will become even wiser; teach the just and they will learn even more."
Proverbs 9:9

The messages for me were:  Don't imitate, do innovate.  Don't judge, do learn.  Don't stay in my audience of comfort, do broaden my message. 

And like all life, changing those 'don'ts' into 'do's' is simple but not easy.  What messages have your received today?
