The handsome young man in the photo is my grandson Miles Goeglein on the occasion of his confirmation. Like many his age, he has struggled with what to believe. What he showed me was the power just one quote can have on a life.
“If you are able!
– All things can be done for the one who believes.”
-Mark 9:23
All my life I’ve been a performer and I plan on being one for rest of my life. When I am stressed out for a show or a song that I have to perform in front of others, I always think about how I just need to believe in myself and anything can happen. This helps me feel less stressed. To be honest, I never knew about this bible verse until one H2H night when I started looking through my bible for confirmation verses and that’s when I came across it. In this verse Jesus is inviting me to believe in myself but to know I am not alone. I often get scared or frustrated and can only do so much but to believe and trust in Him helps me move on. Knowing that I’ve been saying this in my head all these years made me think, well maybe this verse is my faith. I found it crazy that one verse, that’s not even fifteen words long could do so much and say so much, but now whenever I say this verse I feel like Jesus is telling me to go ahead and try something new even if it’s hard. If you truly believe in yourself it can be accomplished.
Life gets stressful sometimes. You never know
what door is going to open or close, but the more you feel the emotion in every
word in this verse, the more you know God is giving you the opportunity to
accomplish anything as long as you believe. Also in this verse, I feel like God
is telling us to set our sights high, but when I say this I do not mean that you
get everything you want, you can feel good about yourself and others by
believing in yourself. Stuff happens, just because you do not get something you
want when you are believing in yourself, does not mean this verse is not true.
It just means that maybe you were not meant for it.
This
verse is not only inspirational but it has a story behind it. It’s about a
father who is worried about his demon-possessed son. The son attempts to
destroy himself by throwing himself into fire and then into water. His father
witnessing his sons attempt at death causes the father unknown grief. He comes
to Jesus as his last resort, so he says to Jesus when he sees him, “If you are
able, can you heal my son.” The father is uncertain if anything can be done for
his son. Jesus speaks to his uncertainty-All things can be done for the one who
believes. Jesus is telling the father to believe in Him (Jesus) as his Help.
Jesus helps make the impossible – possible. Knowing this story really makes me
think about who Jesus is talking too. Yes, he is talking to a father with a
demon-possessed son, but when he says this I feel as though he is talking to
the whole world, not just this man. As a Christian I believe that everyone will
interpret this verse differently, but I think Jesus is just speaking to our
uncertainty; telling us that if we believe in him, he will help us believe we can
get through anything.
I know that friends or family or even that
person that is a complete stranger to you, can read this and just keep moving
on. I know if I had a friend or knew someone that had thoughts of hurting
themselves in any way, I would show them this verse and I would tell them you
do not have to hurt yourself. If you believe in yourself you will make it
through this. I am a strong believer that if a person is having a bad day, all
they need is that little reminder saying that you’re going to be fine. “If you
are able! – All things can be done for the one who believes.” Believe in
yourself and I promise you will get through any situation and you are never
alone. I will continue to perform and
live my life with this verse in my head and all
things can be done for me as one who believes.
Thank you for a beautiful lesson Miles. I love you.
